Younger Children’s Story Massage with Jen Helmbolt and Mary Atkinson (Makaton)

Makaton is a unique sign language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.

Along with Makaton, through my Creative Communication side of the business, I provide a wide variety of Touch Therapies such as the Story Massage Programme, Massage in Schools Programme, Rainbow Kids Therapy, Mini Me Yoga and Mindfulness, Teen Yoga, Zumba and Zumbini.

Touch plays such an important role in communicating affection and reassurance, whether through a hug, holding hands or specifically designed strokes as with the Story Massage Programme. Touch can also help a person interpret their world and make sense of their surroundings. It is a pathway to connecting with a person who might be struggling to share.

I spend my days in a wide variety of educational establishments including Early Years Settings, Severe Complex/Additional Needs Schools, Mainstream and Secondary Education as well as working with individuals of the public to raise awareness and develop skills in these wonderful, independent life enabling therapies to ensure as inclusive a world as possible where everyone can be heard and thrive beautifully.
